Perspective – The Cold And The Homeless

January 24, 2012
Posted by Hope Mission

Last week, Alberta broke its record for electricity usage. With temperatures dipping as low as -45, it’s not difficult to see why Edmonton’s furnaces were running in full force. I know mine certainly was. While homelessness is something the majority of us likely contemplate only on occasion, I know the cold that’s met me on my doorstep this week has certainly been a constant, sobering reminder of the harsh conditions many displaced people in our city daily face.

Nearly 2,500 individuals in Edmonton are homeless (according to the most recent count 15 months ago). Instead of complaining about my electricity bill this winter, I’m attempting to cultivate an attitude of awareness and gratitude, and invite you to as well. Consider making a donation to Hope Mission over the next couple of months, when the hot meals and warm shelter we provide is most needed. We are so thankful to those who generously give their time and resources. Please know that your help enables us to save lives each winter. Carmyn
