Kids in Action

For the last 80 years the Hope Mission has been involved in the lives of the homeless of this city. Through these efforts it was realized that not only do we need to be reactive to the suffering of the people in our society, but also proactive in their lives. Kids in Action was born from this belief.

Kids in Action strives to provide youth and kids the support and skills they need to overcome the pitfalls of life and avoid the cycles of addiction and abuse that our society suffers from. In order to carry this goal out, we provide after-school programs in Edmonton Public Schools.

In order to insure the safety of our children, we require that all those that attend our programs have a completed waiver. The waiver can be downloaded below. This waiver must be filled out by a legal guardian.

After School Program

The program meets in the school gymnasium immediately following school, and concludes at 5:00 pm. Skits and smaller group activities communicate character lessons based on the bible, themes include: love, generosity, courage, honesty, forgiveness, and kindness. Staff and kids participate in large group active play times, which provide a great opportunity for peer to peer, and peer to staff relationships to be formed. Near the end of the program the staff and kids sit down and have a meal together, which for some of the students meets a very natural need in their lives, and for all of the students provides an opportunity to talk to someone who wants to listen. We also provide a Grade 5-6 program from 5:30-7:00 in the school gymnasium,  that mirrors our grade 1-4 program but is more age appropriate.

- Grades 1-4 3:00-5:00
- Grades 5-6 5:30-7:00
- Meal Provided
- Cost is free

Mentoring

The more we can be in the lives of these children the more impact their will be.  In some of our schools we partner with Big Brothers and Sisters in order to provide one on one opportunities. Mentoring opportunities may not be offered to all of our schools due to scheduling conflicts.

Community

Its important that we have relationships not only with the children in our schools but with their parents, and other members of the community. We try to be as visible in and supportive of our communities as we can be. One of the ways that we do this is by facilitating community family events. Some examples of our community family include: Christmas Family Supper, Ginger bread house build off, Halloween Pumpkin decorating contest, and a Canada day Celebration. The idea behind these events is to facilitate events for families to come and just be families.

Clubhouse

The Clubhouse meets in the RW.Tegler Youth Centre located at 3805 118 ave. Open Monday-Friday from 3:00-7:00 the Clubhouse provides a safe and fun community environment. Activities include: character lessons, games, sports, crafts, and other relational group building activities.
